What if my son/daughter is absent?

You must contact the school attendance office at (480) 664-5513 by 11:30 am the day of an absence to excuse your student's absence. If you are unable to call the day of the absence, please call the next morning or give your student a written note. Absences not excused within 72 hours of the absence date will remain unexcused on the student's permanent attendance record.

What if my son/daughter needs to leave early?

To have the early dismissal excused, two things must occur: 1) You must call the attendance office to report the absence prior to the student's dismissal; and 2) the student must check out through the attendance office prior to leaving campus.

Are college visits/orientations considered an excused absence?

Yes. You should notify the school of your student's college visits in advance. Please note that these absences do count towards the total number of absences in a given semester.

Does Fountain Hills High School have a dress code?

Students should dress appropriately for the educational environment. Clothing should not be disruptive, a distraction, or provocative. For details and a list of clothing deemed inappropriate, refer to the copy of the Student Handbook at the bottom of the About Us (make this a hyper-link) page.

My son/daughter will be driving to school. What are the rules for parking?

For the safety of our students, it is required that they register their vehicles and receive a permit in order to park on campus. Permits may be obtained for $60 for the entire year or $30 if purchased after January 1. Students will not be permitted to "hang out" in the school parking lots during the instructional day.

Can my student go off-campus for lunch?

Juniors and Seniors may apply for off-campus privileges to leave campus for lunch. Forms are available in the front office and must be signed by the student?s parent/ guardian in the presence of a school official. Students must then show their school-issued picture ID signifying off-campus privileges in order to leave campus.

What are the attendance requirements for my student to participate in school activities?

Our students must be in attendance during the school day in order to participate in extra-curricular activities held on that day. Verified medical/dental appointments are accepted as excused absences. Students must also be in attendance in their first regularly scheduled class the day after an away contest/out-of-town event to ensure participation in the next contest/event.

What are the academic eligibility requirements for my student's participation in athletics and clubs?

Students need to be receiving passing grades in all classes every two weeks in order to participate in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. Students must remain eligible to practice with the team, participate in contests, and miss school time for away contests.

What is the grading scale?

Regular courses are assigned grade points on a 4.0 grade point scale, 4.5 grade point scale for honors courses, and a 5.0 grade point scale for Advanced Placement courses.

Does my son/daughter have to take the AIMS test? When are AIMS tests administered?

Yes, beginning with the graduating class of 2006, all Arizona students are required to pass the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards test in order to receive a diploma. Students have multiple opportunities to pass the test beginning in 10th grade. For more information on testing dates, please contact our Counselors.

Is community service a graduation requirement?

Yes. Prior to graduation, students must complete a minimum of 24 hours of community service activities (prorated for transfer students). These activities may be performed at school, church, through local civic organizations, or through other approved agencies. Community service hours must be documented on the form available in the administration office. Community service for seniors is due by May 15, 2006.

My son/daughter wants to earn college credit. What is the policy on dual enrollment?

Dual enrollment is available for students wanting to earn college credit with prior approval from the student's counselor. We will apply approved college courses toward the high school requirements for graduation, so students have the opportunity to earn dual college and high school credit. Students can earn one-half high school credits for each three, four, or five-hour semester college course that is posted on that college's transcript.
