Fountain Hills vs. Safford @ San Tan Foothills H.S.
2/06/2010

Safford, the #2 ranked team in 3A, may have been the favorite in the minds of many, but Fountain Hills refused to believe they were the lesser team in the 3A South semi-finals Saturday night. In a game that was neck-and-neck throughout, both teams played stellar defense in a game that came down to the wire. Fountain Hills' size was a major advantage against the Bulldogs, but early foul trouble kept Alex Forehand, the Falcons' leading scorer, out for most of the game. Forehand's replacement, Tyler Bode, was also dogged by foul trouble that kept him off the floor for much of the fourth quarter. When the big men did play, they dominated. Jeffrey Bonner, the Falcons lone big without foul problems, led the team with 17 points on 6 of 8 shooting and had 10 rebounds, which tied Bode for the team lead. Bode also had 11 points (matching Forehand), but a baffling non-call of a Safford hip-check with just seconds remaining kept him from scoring the winning goal. Safford's Brandon McEuen sunk a free throw to extend the lead to two, but a desperation heave with less than a second fell short. Jordan Henslin had an impressive 16 assists in the loss. The Falcons will play on Tuesday against Florence for 3rd place in the league and an automatic bid in the state tournament.

Fountain Hills vs. Santa Cruz @San Tan Foothills H.S.
2/04/2010

Fountain Hills inside/outside tandem of Alex Forehand and Kyle Keating was too much for the Santa Cruz Dust Devils to handle in the opening round of the 3A South Regional Tournament. Forehand's game-high 21 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 blocks were complemented inside by Tyler Bode's 11 points and Jeffrey Bonner's 9 points and 10 boards. Many of Keatings 18 points came off the passes of Jordan Henslin, who led the Falcons with 13 assists. The win was Fountain Hills' second over Santa Cruz, whose persistence and athleticism made it difficult at times for the Falcons to score. Fountain Hills perseverance paid off in the end as they held off any chance at a Santa Cruz rally.

Scottsdale Christian @ Fountain Hills

The Falcons hosted the #1 team in 2A Saturday night as Fountain Hills couldn't come away with a victory on Senior Night against Scottsdale Christian. Both teams played well defensively, as Fountain Hills limited Scottsdale to well below their season average and even cut the Scottsdale lead to single digits in the fourth quarter. But a first quarter in which the Falcons were limited to just four points was too much of a hole to dig out of. Scottsdale took advantage of late game free-throws to seal the victory. Scottsdale's size made it difficult for Fountain Hills to score as Cody Ostertag, son of former Utah Jazz center Greg Ostertag, stuffed four Falcon shot attempts; Scottsdale blocked 9 shots in all. The Falcons' only double digit scorer was Kyle Keating with 10 points. Jeffrey Bonner added 9 points inside the paint.

Fountain Hills @ Santa Cruz Valley

Fountain Hills 83 Santa Cruz 56

In what could be described as a must-win game, Fountain Hills brought suffocating defense to Eloy against the Santa Cruz Dust Devils. Allowing just 17 first half points, the Falcons were in the drivers seat from the tipoff to the final buzzer. Leading the way was Jeffrey Bonner, who notched his first career triple-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 steals. Point guard Jordan Henslin just missd his own triple-double as he scored 11, dished out 9 assists, and grabbed 8 rebounds. Alex Forehand and Tyler Bode were formidable inside combining for 20 points and 18 rebounds, and Kyle Keating was the team's outside threat adding 15 points. It was a somewhat bittersweet victory, however, as Fountain Hills senior Josh Leger went down with a hand injury early in the contest.

Fountain Hills @ Globe

Globe 74 Fountain Hills 54

A fourth quarter implosion doomed Fountain Hills in a road loss at region opponent Globe. The Falcons seemed out of sync offensively, scoring well below their season average. They were, however, able to take advantage of their size inside as Alex Forehand and Tyler Bode combined to score 25 points, but no other Falcon scored in double figures. The frustration of missed scoring opportunities along with a questionable foul situation (Fountain Hills only shot four free-throws the entire game) caused things to unravel late as Globe scored 27 in the fourth quarter to run away with the game. Bode led the Falcons with 13 on 6 of 9 shooting to go with 7 boards. Jordan Henslin contributed 7 assists before fouling out of the game.

Coolidge @ Fountain Hills

Fountain Hills 79 Coolidge 54

The Falcons rebounded from a tough loss against Precision with a resounding victory Friday against league rival Coolidge. After a high scoring first quarter, Fountain Hills clamped down on defense, stifling the Bears offense and limiting them to just 20 total points in the second and third quarter. Tyler Bode was dominant inside, scoring a game-high 21 points. Kyle Keating flowed with 14. Jordan Henslin continued to show an improved scoring touch with 10. Leading rebounder Jeffrey Bonner added 9 points. The Falcons close out the regular season with road games at Globe and Santa Cruz Valley and the home finale against a tough Scottsdale Christian squad on senior night Saturday.

Precision @ Fountain Hills

Precision 68 Fountain Hills 67

Fountain Hills had a victory slip away Thursday night against Precision as the Falcons came undone at the free throw line. FHHS entered the fourth quarter with a seven-point advantage but could not seal the deal down the stretch as the Falcons finished shooting just 9 of 26 from the line, a performance that ultimately cost them the game. High-scoring Precision guard Brandon Ehlinger was tough to stop, scoring a game high 24 points. High scorers for the Falcons included Alex Forehand with 17, Kyle Keating with 13, Jeffrey Bonner and Jordan Henslin with a dozen each.

Fountain Hills @ Payson

Fountain Hills 61 Payson 47

Fountain Hills struggled to find a rhythm early but exploded for 23 points in the fourth quarter as they sailed by Payson 61-47 Tuesday night. The Falcons had a hard time stopping Longhorn guard penetration early and went into the locker room with a 10-point deficit. They remedied the situation in the second half, however, outscoring Payson 41-21 on their way to victory. The Falcons front line of Alex Forehand, Jeffrey Bonner, and Tyler Bode were too much for Payson to handle.

Valley Christian @ Fountain Hills

Valley Christian 66 Fountain Hills 49

The Falcons faced a tough opponent Friday at home against Valley Christian. The match was tight throughout the first three quarters with Valley leading by just five points going into the fourth. The Falcons seemingly ran out of gas, however, as the Trojans outscored Fountain Hills 24-12 in the fourth. Fountain Hills got solid play inside from Jeffrey Bonner, Alex Forehand, and Tyler Bode, but found it difficult to score from the perimeter, shooting just 2 of 21 from three-point range. Kyle Keating led Fountain Hills with 17 points while Jordan Henslin's 11 assists and 8 rebounds led the team in those categories. Bonner contributed 11 points and 8 rebounds. A healthy Alex Forehand should be a big key in games next week against Payson, Precision, and Coolidge. The return of shooting guard B.J. Vigneux should also provide a lift in the coming games as he works his way back from a broken foot suffered in a punt return during Fountain Hills' run to the state football semifinals.

Fountain Hills @ Northwest Christian

Northwest Christian 69 Fountain Hills 49

A horrendous first quarter in which the Falcons scored a mere 2 points doomed the Falcons in a road match at Northwest Christian. The Falcons were ice cold throughout the game, shooting only 25 percent from the field as a team. Northwest Christian was able to sustain the early lead and coasted the victory. Kyle Keating led the Falcons with 16 while Jeffrey Bonner added 10 rebounds. Tyler Bode contributed 10 points and 9 rebounds, while Rainer Greenstreet added 9 points as the only FHHS player to shoot 50 percent from the field.

Fountain Hills @ Canyon State Academy

Fountain Hills 67 CSA 36

The Falcons' defensive tenacity and ability to run the floor was the difference in a lopsided victory against the Canyon State Academy Rams. Jordan Henslin ran the fast break effectively, accounting for 14 assists in the game. Henslin's dishes were converted primarily by forwards Kyle Keating and Jeffrey Bonner and center Tyler Bode. Keating led the Falcons with 20 points while Bode added 16 and Bonner contributed 11 points and 6 rebounds. Fountain Hills shot an incredible 58 percent from the field in the victory.

Fountain Hills @ Florence

Florence 59 Fountain Hills 58

In an important regional matchup, Fountain Hills had a victory in their fingertips but let it slip away in the final seconds against the Gophers during a dogfight in Florence. Deadlocked at half time, Fountain Hills managed to build a five-point lead going into the fourth quarter. The Falcons held the lead for much of the quarter until late foul calls and turnovers gave Florence the opportunity for the go-ahead score. With 6 seconds remaining, Jordan Henslin was able to get a final shot off with some contact, but not enough to draw a whistle as the shot rimmed out, sending the Falcons home disappointed, but hungry for a possible rematch in the region tournament. Kyle Keating’s 16 points paced the Falcons, while Jordan Henslin added 11 points and 13 assists. Jeffrey Bonner had a solid all-around performance with 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 steals. Florence’s high scoring guard Kyle Washington was true to form as he scored a game-high 20 for the Gophers.

Fountain Hills @ San Tan Foothills

Fountain Hills 75 San Tan Foothills 40

The Falcons traveled to Queen Creek for a match with San Tan Foothills Wednesday and came home with a resounding victory. Jered Steuber led all scorers with 19 points, while Kyle Keating and Josh Leger added 14 apiece. Leger also added 8 rebounds, second on the team to Jeffrey Bonner’s 11. Size was the biggest factor in the lopsided victory, as the Falcons out-rebounded the Sabercats 43-22. Seniors Alex Forehand and Jordan Henslin also added solid contributions with 10 points and 10 assists respectively.

Tempe Prep @ Fountain Hills

Fountain Hills 84 Tempe Prep 37

An efficient Falcons offense scored 26 points in the first quarter and never looked back as Fountain Hills cruised to an 84-37 rout of the visiting Knights. Kyle Keating was the shooting star for the falcons, scoring 18 points on 7 of 10 shooting, including 2 of 3 from behind the arch. Not far behind was Jeffrey Bonner, who along with his 16 points on 7 of 9 shooting grabbed 8 rebounds and had 6 steals. Tyler Bode helped establish an inside presence, hauling down a team-high 10 rebounds, and Alex Forehand had a solid outing with 13 points and 5 boards. Jered Steuber contributed 11 points and Josh Leger added 9. Point guards Jordan Henslin and Rainer Greenstreet kept the offense running efficiently with a combined 16 assists to just 3 turnovers.
