Our Special Education department focuses on the development of the individual. Our team of teachers and staff utilize their professional knowledge and creativity skills to design a curriculum that encourages the emotional and intellectual development of each student.
Meet Our Team
Parents, we encourage you to stay in constant communication with your child's teacher. Successful education does not stop at the end of the school day. Parents need to reinforce what their children learn in the classroom and create an environment in the home that facilitates learning. If you have any questions regarding your child's education, please contact his/her teacher to discuss the situation. We also would like to invite you to visit our district Special Education page.
About Colleen Jacobson
Colleen Jacobson was born and raised in New York City. She went to college in New England, but eventually graduated from Antioch College in Ohio, started by the great educator Horace Mann. There she received her bachelor’s in psychology with a minor in education. Her first teaching job was in 1978 in San Francisco and then joined the financial institutions of Wall Street. She started a special education master’s/Ph.D. program at Temple University in Philadelphia but moved to Arizona and finished her masters and special education cross category certificate through the University of Phoenix. After the horrible events of September 11, 2001, Colleen reinstated her teaching career and has been at Fountain Hills High School since 2004.
